Welcome to Sant’Elia Cycle Co.
There are easier ways to see Sicily.
Big buses. Matching hats. Air-conditioned day trips where a well-meaning but overworked guide with a little microphone tells you what year a church was built before marching you back onto the coach for lunch at a place nobody local has eaten in since 1998.
This is not that.
Sant’Elia is the kind of place where people swear they found it before everyone else. A little fishing village hanging off the northern coast of Sicily. Fishermen gathering at 3am to mend their nets, laundry dances above alleyways, generations of women walk arm-in-arm to church, and scooters move with complete disregard for human mortality. A place where lunch can easily become dinner if nobody’s paying attention.
Somewhere between Palermo and the sea, life slows down a little. Schedules get blurry here.
That’s what got us.
Two Sicilians and a guy from Chicago ended up opening a café and bike shop because after enough espresso, enough long nights near the water, enough of Maria’s cooking, and enough “just one more drink” sunsets, we realized something important: People don’t really come to Sicily looking for perfection. Grazie a Dio. They come looking for feeling. For stories. For the tiny moments they’ll think about six months later in a grocery store wondering what the word was for eggplant.
The smell of saltwater and sunscreen coming off the beach. A nonna on a balcony giving you directions you absolutely did not understand but somehow followed perfectly. Church bells and coffee cups echoing through Santa Flavia in the morning. A cold beer after a bike ride to that place your vegetable guy swore you had to see.
That’s the Sicily we care about.
So we built this place around the things we love: local business, secret beaches, good food, better friends, late nights, long conversations, and the beautiful chaos of Sicilian life.Sure, we rent bikes, and someday soon a couple paddle boards might show up. But our passion is in our bike rides and walking tours through Sant’Elia, Porticello, and Santa Flavia. Introducing you to Vincenzo at Le Delizie and Giuseppe at Scaru. Making sure the butcher and baker know your face and give you a minute to pull up your translator app. Some days we’ll point you toward the perfect swimming spot. Other days we’ll tell you where to find grilled swordfish, the good cannoli, or which bar to haunt when the streetlights come on. You may even find us at the same bar.
And honestly? Sometimes the best plan is no plan at all. Boh. That’s Sicily.
This isn’t luxury tourism. This is slower. Messier. More human. Dare we say, more meaningful.
The kind of travel where you leave knowing the names of bartenders, local cats, grandmothers, and maybe, just maybe, by the time you leave, you can say, “I got a guy for that.”
We’re still building this thing. The tours are small. The café is simple. We’re learning as we go. But for us, that’s the point. Slow, sustainable, healthy growth in a town that we love. Piano piano. TikTok won't be obsessed with us forever and we want to be here when the slow times return.
Because the best places in the world usually don’t feel finished. They feel lived in.
